Maths Challenge has started in earnest this week with Gold, Silver and Bronze certificates being awarded to Year 13 students in assembly today.

Back in November 2019, 36 of our Sixth Form students participated in the Senior Maths Challenge. This is a 90 minute multiple choice competition aimed at students all across the UK. It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting challenges.

To recognise the highest performers, they award the top scoring 60% of Participants Bronze, Silver or Gold certificates of which we had 9 from Year 13 and 10 from Year 12. Additionally around 1000 of the highest performers are invited to take part in the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1 and around 6000 to take part in the Senior Kangaroo.

We were excited to hear that Year 13 students Isaac M and Martin W were invited to participate in the Olympiad and Jakub S was invited to participate in the Senior Kangaroo.

Our students have achieved so much considering the numbers involved in this national initiative so we are very proud of them.

As if that wasn't enough, on Tuesday 4th February, Isaac, Martin, Daniel and Bethany competed in the Senior Maths Team Challenge National Finals in London - they came an overall 61st out of the total 1200 who entered - and should be very proud of their achievements against schools who spend a lot of time in preparing for this competition. Top 5.1% Fantastic effort team...
