Ripley Youth Speaks

On Saturday 8 Feb three excited Year 8 pupils team travelled up to Windermere to participate in the Cumbria and Lancashire rounds of the Rotary Youth Speaks competition. Miss Newsham accompanied them along with parents and they did themselves and the school proud.

There were 8 teams in total as far afield as Cumbria and Preston. Maddie, Elizabeth and Anna bravely stepped up as first team to speak.

When asked what they found most enjoyable about the day they all agreed that being able to express yourself freely was exciting although a little scary and that hearing how other teams tackled subjects helped them to reflect and think ahead for future events. They delivered an amazing talk on 'the Snowflake generation'.

Richard Lea, Rotary Youth Speaks Organiser said

“The judges felt that the team performed well and I hope that Maddie, Elizabeth and Anna benefited from the experience and the increased confidence in public speaking will help them often in the future."

The next District event will be held at Windermere School on Saturday 27th February 2021 so the team are looking forward to next year!
