CHILDREN OF KEY WORKERS - 20.03.20 UPDATE

Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you for the many messages of encouragement we have received from you; they are always shared with all staff and are greatly appreciated.

As you know further information has been released by the Government yesterday and the situation regarding key workers has now been clarified.

The first principle of the government guidance is the clear message is that parents should only send their child to school if there is no safe alternative. They are clear that provision in school is the last resort.  Schools remain safe places, but the fewer children making the journey to school, and the fewer children in educational settings, the lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in wider society.

If you haven't already told us that your child needs to attend school because you are a key worker, please could we remind you to do so.  If your child doesn't need to come in every day because of your shift patterns, for example, it would be really helpful if you could let us know on a weekly basis which days your child will be coming into school, to enable us to plan appropriately.  If you are a key worker and your child is currently self-isolating please let us know if and when they will be coming in to school.

Children attending school next week should come in uniform, and should bring their equipment and PE kits.  The canteen will be open as normal.  We have a skeleton programme in place for Monday and will amend this when we see how many children arrive.   School will be open during normal school hours.  At the moment our information is that all buses should be running on Monday – we will update you if we get further information.

We have spoken to those pupils identified as vulnerable in the Government guidance and they have been told they are welcome to attend if they need to.   We have given out vouchers to pupils in receipt of Free School Meals who are in school today.  The remainder will be posted today.  We are expecting the National Voucher system for these pupils to be in place in the next week or two.

We have had a really positive day in school today with assemblies for all year groups taking place and a leavers’ event for Year 13.  We have our Year 11 leaving event this afternoon.  As many of you have said, it is a sad way for these two year groups to finish, but unfortunately events are out of our control.   We pray for health and safety for all of our pupils and families in the coming months and for all of you who work in the NHS and in key roles in society.

I will continue to provide updates as necessary.
