An Easter message from Mrs Nicholls

An Easter message from Mrs Nicholls

Dear Parents and Carers

The end of term looms, an end of term like no other!  What an eerie and cavernous place Ripley is at present; our wonderful buildings weren't designed to have such echoing corridors and empty outside spaces. Education is continuing, however, albeit in a  somewhat different guise!  I hope you are coping well with all this home schooling and that the remote learning provided by staff  is enabling some structure and purpose to be put into the long days. As you will be aware the amount of work to be done has now been slightly reduced with open ended tasks available for those who need more. We do not wish to put undue pressure on children and families at this time.  When we return to school teachers will make sure all gaps in learning are filled.

We welcome around 10-15 pupils to Ripley each day, including a small number from Our Lady's Catholic College. We started yesterday with worship in the chapel, a reminder of normality! Mrs Casson led us in a reflection on prayer - how important it is to pray without ceasing in these difficult days - and how wonderful to be reminded that God is present with us in all things - even this!

We continue to receive daily updates from the DfE, now mostly around how we can safeguard vulnerable pupils.  The Free School Meals voucher system is now up and running, up to this point we have been buying vouchers and sending them to families.

The hospital continues to use the sixth form building and other areas of school - this has enabled them to create more capacity within the actual hospital, which is great.

So, I suppose one could say that a sort of new normal has been established.

Our chaplain Adrian leaves us today, to begin his new ministry in Blackpool, it is sad that we are unable to say a proper goodbye but I know that we would all want to thank him for all he has contributed to Ripley and wish him every blessing in his new ministry.

Next term will be a busy one for recruitment with quite a few vacancies to fill.  Zoom will definitely be busy!  We will also be welcoming Paul Cairns as our new Senior Assistant Principal.

So, we approach the season of Easter, I hope you and your families will find joy in the signs of spring all around us and hope in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ - when suffering did not have the last word.   You might find this prayer helpful in putting words to your thoughts:

Most Merciful and Triune God,
We come to You in our weakness.
We come to You in our fear.
We come to You with trust.
For You alone are our hope.

We place before You the disease present in our world.
We turn to You in our time of need.

Bring wisdom to doctors.
Give understanding to scientists.
Endow caregivers with compassion and generosity.
Bring healing to those who are ill.
Protect those who are most at risk.
Give comfort to those who have lost a loved one.
Welcome those who have died into Your Eternal Home.

Stabilize our communities.
Unite us in our compassion.
Remove all fear from our hearts.
Fill us with confidence in Your care.

We have recorded a brief Easter service for our school community, you will find the link here, do listen in!
