PPE the Ripley D&T way!

PPE the Ripley D&T way!

Since lockdown and up to the end of what would have been the Easter break, Ripley Design and Technology department have been in overdrive producing over 2500 faceshields for frontline keyworkers in our community.

It is a cause very close to home with school being right next door to the UHMBT Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

Mrs Bell, Mr Martindale and the whole of Ripley D & T with many school staff and volunteers made up of existing and ex pupils on lockdown from their jobs or university courses offered their expertise and hard graft to deliver the gargantuan task of helping to keep our keyworkers safe.

PPE was created and shared to local NHS keyworkers in UHMBT and related healthcare settings such as RLI, Lancaster Farms, pharmacies, dentists, many care homes, surgeries, LCC adult services and Lancashire Police.

There are too many to mention but here are just a few of the fabulous messages we received in response on social media…

“You have all been so amazing, @UHMBT can firmly count @ripleystthomas as new lifelong friends and I for one look forward to being able to repay your kindness and support back when all this is over. I’ve got a great Fun activity which I know the pupils will enjoy.”  Stuart Hosking-Durn UHMBT Emergency Preparedness, Resilience & Response professional

“We are blessed to have the best neighbours! @ripleystthomas CE Academy has just delivered ear savers and over 100 face shields to help our frontline staff in the battle against COVID19. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you Mrs Bell and team at Ripley D&T.”  UMHBT

“The Healthcare team at HMP Lancaster Farms today kindly received visors made by Ripley St Thomas Academy. Thank you it is much appreciated.”  Lancaster Farms Healthcare team

“Thank you so much to Mrs Bell and her team @RipleyDandT for making and providing our staff with face shields for our battle against COVID19. Your amazing work is recognized as incredible.”  UHMBT Education Centre

"A huge thank you to all involved from Ripley St Thomas’ school @RipleyDandT who have made and donated numerous face masks. These will be shared out across our @LancsPolice custody sites to offer further protection to our staff.”                 Chief Inspector Chris Hardy, Lancashire Police

Mrs Bell said: "I was absolutely taken away by all the support on social media which meant we received lots of donations of acetate by individuals, schools and businesses from around the Lancaster and Morecambe area. A huge thank you to Mrs Nicholls who helped make the whole thing possible and to Mrs Gill & Mrs Richmond who helped out every day by assembling and delivering the visors as well as the following staff; Mr Martindale (D&T), Mrs Bowker (Food), Mrs Pearson (PE), Mrs Huddart (MFL), Mrs Robb (RE), Mrs Richardson (Art). I feel really proud that we were able to help the local NHS staff and keyworkers in this way, as well as adding something to this history of this wonderful school, I think Thomas & Julia Ripley would have approved!"

Production has now stopped due to Mrs Bell needing to get back to teaching! We hope that our school efforts have helped in some small way to keep our Ripley family and wider local community safe and well until we see each other again. #ClapforRipleyD&T
