Sixth form students aspire to apprenticeship success

This month, a group of fifteen Year 13 students travelled to BAe Systems Submarines in Barrow to take part in their Higher Apprenticeship open day.  Alongside presentations from the early careers department on the benefits of Higher Apprenticeships as a next step after A Levels, students were also given the opportunity to talk to managers of the different apprenticeship schemes and current apprentices to find out more about specific roles and the application and selection process. They also enjoyed the chance to experience the scale of the submarine design and building operations at Barrow with a site tour.

The visit is part of a series of events and activities organised by the sixth form which aim to both inform and enthuse students about the diverse range of career options available to them as alternatives to University.  Other activities this term have included an inspiring and informative talk by former student Emily Adam, who is now in her second year of the Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship Scheme.
